A New Monster

The electrodes dug deep. Deep into he heart of the alien flesh and pumped 10,000 volts deep into the core of the creature. It awoke the monster and it wailed. Like a dying whale it's screams haunted the onlookers. It's body did not shake. The electricity surged through its veins and supercharging its heart.

The doctor pushed the leaver further forward. Sparks flurried like unfurled flag. The wails of the monster grew loader and soon it was all you could hear. Drowning out the whirring of the machines, of the pencil scratchings of the scientists of the shock gasps. There was nothing but the sound of the dying monster.

But the experiment was not yet over.

From behind the protective screen, cladded in radiation suits, crept two scientists. One carried  large spear. They edged closer and closer to their marker, a white line drawn on the thick concrete floor. They turned to the doctor. Their superior gave a nod of his greying head.

The pair lifted the spear like object, high above their heads. They held it there, quivering under the weight. The electricity raced through the creature, it's screams ringing loud in everyone's hearts. This was it.

They thrust down hard, stabbing the metal against the armoured skin of the creature. Every test before hadn't been a success. Every attempt resulted in dead scientists, broken spears and an ever more powerful and fearful enemy.

But the spear dug in deep. It ripped the creatures flesh and tore it apart. The screams stopped. An explosion of mucus erupted to the ceiling, covering everything in the room. It's acidic nature ate through the metal and the concrete. But the the creature was dead.

Scurrying quickly behind the screen the scientists tore off the melting suits. Their skin was saved for the most part. A few tinged patches and bald spots but at least they hadn't ended up as their dead companions. The greying doctor approached them, wins smile on his face. Finally a speck of hope in his old heart.

He turned to face the crowd, the scientists who risked their lives.

"Gentleman. Ladies. There is a way to win this thing."
